Plants!

We have busy this month growing plants in kindergarten! We have been learning SO much about seeds, how they grow, the parts of the plants, and what they  need to grow.

I LOVE these little "green houses" where we sprout our green beans! The kids get to see the roots and sprouts grow from the seed with a little water and sunlight! And they are just stinkin' cute! These green bean plants will be coming home soon, as some of them are growing over the tops of the green houses!

We had four different types of grasses to plant. We planted alfalfa, wheat, oats, and rye grass. The alfalfa sprouted first! Sure has been fun to watch them grow! We will cut the grass tomorrow and see what happens after that. Sunflowers will be next!

We have also been "growing" a garden in the classroom;) The kids have been learning about roots we can eat and we have painted, cut out, and put our roots in the garden. We still have strawberries, squash, and peas to add to the garden!

This next project just makes me think of spring! We made a picture of a flower along with the sun, rain, and soil that a plant needs to grow. Super cute!

We still have a few plant things to do this month. I will make sure they get posted before we move on to zoo animals in May!

Report cards? Uh-Oh!

Sooooo, my report cards have been done since WEDNESDAY and they have been sitting on the counter ready to go home....and...then...I FORGOT! AHHHHHH! I am very sorry!!!! They will go home Monday, for sure!!! We have been so busy in kindergarten with plants, reading, writing, adding, and nice weather (of course) that it completely slipped my mind this afternoon. Again, I am sorry!

I  wanted to share our plant things with you, but I can't get my pics to upload. I will try again later  this weekend. The kids have been so busy sprouting green beans, growing grass, and making our "garden" vegetables. Hope I can get things to work in the next couple of days.

Again, I am so sorry about the report cards and will get them home Monday....FOR SURE!!!!!

Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the sunshine, Darci

In Like a Lion???

They say March's weather is supposed to come in like a lion, and go out like a lamb....hmmmm, didn't really happen that way this year! In kindergarten we talked and wrote about "lion weather" and "lamb weather" and made some SUPER cute lions and lambs!

The kiddos predicted what they thought March's weather would be like...lion or lamb?

Now, you can't just talk about weather in March! Of course we celebrated St. Patrick's day too! We painted these adorable rainbows and made our handprints into leprechauns!

We also made these other cute leprechauns and wrote about what makes us feel "Lucky!"

"I feel lucky when I get to play with Eli."

We sure have been busy this month in kindergarten! We will be wrapping up weather after spring break and moving onto our plant unit in April. I will do a better job keeping things updated with plants;) Hope you all had a great spring break!

3D shapes and Blubber!

We wrapped up our 3D shape unit and walruses last Friday. The kids used marshmallows and toothpicks to create 3D shapes...it was SO MUCH FUN! They worked so hard and you wouldn't believe how quiet the kindergarten classroom was...AMAZING;) check out these kids hard at work...

After we build our shapes then we wrote about our hard work in our math journals.

The class did such a great job! Good Job Room 6!!!

We also did a quick little experiment last Friday to learn how Arctic animals stay warm in their COLD climate!

We started by putting our hands in a bowl of ice water...

Then we put our hands in the ice water with "blubber"

Then we wrote about our experiment...

"This is cold"             "This is so warm!"

LOVE this writing!!!! What a fun day in kindergarten;)

Kindergarten Writing!!

I wanted to share some of the kids' writing with you. Last week we wrote one thing we learned about the ocean, after reading a book called Atlantic. I was so impressed with their writing that I let many of them share their journal entries with the class ON. THE. ELMO! WOW!!!! They just LOVE doing this;) I know these are impossible to read...I should have taken another photo of all their journals separately, but I wanted to share. Enjoy;)

"I learned that all the waves move in and out."

"I learned the dolphin and the dolphins live in the ocean."

3D shapes and 100's day!!!

We are in the middle of our 3D shape unit right now! Thank you to all the parents who helped and sent in items for each shape. We started this unit with 2D shapes and talked about the different attributes of circles, triangles, squares, rectangles, rhombuses, and hexagons. The kindergartners did some really great thinking with their math journals and had to problem solve ways to make each shape. Check out what they did...

We learned that you cannot fill a circle with squares because a circle does not have any straight sides or corners!

But here are some things you can make with squares...

We practiced making shapes with other shapes -

Here are a few of our cones the kids brought for 3D shape sharing!

We also shared cubes, cylinders, and sphere!

Our 100th day of school was so much fun! First we made necklaces with froot loops. We had to count out 10 groups of 10 and string them on our necklaces! Check out these kids hard at work;)

We also made our 100's day snack. Thank you to all the parents who sent in part of this snack! We had to count our 10 groups of 10 snack foods.

Here we are after our fun filled 100's day!

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!

SNOW!!!!!

I know it has been too long since I showed you all the awesome things your kids are doing in room 6! We have been super busy with winter related things, such as snowflakes, snowmen, and penguins!!! I just love teaching kids about penguins are Arctic animals:)) I will start with these cute snowflakes we made with a coffee filter and their handprints...

Next, we added a Rookery of Penguins! They are so cute! We read books about penguins, made lists of facts about penguins, and wrote about penguins.

The kids did an awesome job on this next assignment. We made a little penguin craft, but also had to write a sentence about penguins. We practiced having a capital at the beginning, spaces between our words, and a period at the end.

The class also created an addition problem using a penguin, green fish, and purple fish. Everyone is doing really well with addition sentences in math!

We finished up with snowmen when we returned from winter break. We made these yummy snowman treats and cute snowmen in our hallway.

Thanks so much for taking a look! We will be studying polar bears and walruses for the next couple weeks. Have a great weekend!
