Apples, Apples, Everywhere!

This week we started our apple unit off with a bang! Everyone brought an apple on Monday and we started measuring, weighing, sorting, and writing about our apples.

Does your apple float or sink?

The kids balanced their apples with wooden cubes, then counted to see how many cubes it took!

How many unifix cubes tall is your apple?

Look at all those cubes! We had some heavy apples!

Next, we talked about the parts of an apple and then we labeled our own.

What is your favorite type of apple? We made our favorite apples (either red, green or yellow) and glued on the words "I like red/green/yellow apples." (I and like are our sight words so far)

Then we graphed how many people liked each.

Look at all the describing words the kiddos came up with to tell me about apples! After holding, feeling, and touching our apples we made quite the list of words to describe apples. After we did this together, kids wrote their own lists of words...nice job room 6!

Last, but not least this week we made these cute little poems with illustrations. "Eat and apple, save the core, plant the seeds, and grow some more!"

Here's a closer look...

We had so much fun this week. More apple fun to come next week!
